Market & harvest reports march – april 2025

14 May 2025

After a very wet winter and an unusually dry start to april, water reserves across our fields are full and sowings got underway early under optimal conditions. despite some crop-specific constraints, we expect to bridge smoothly into next season.

Northern Europe: early momentum with watchful eyes

In the North, around 30 % of peas have now been drilled and onion plantings are complete. Spring spinach and carrots are off to a promising start, benefiting from warm days and well-prepared soils. Our first winter spinach harvest delivered high-quality leaves, though yields may dip if rain remains scarce. we’re monitoring soil moisture closely to maintain consistent quality.

Iberica Region: plenty of water, pockets of delay

Heavy winter rains replenished reservoirs in Spain and Portugal, securing irrigation for the season ahead. However, the same storms delayed some winter broccoli plantings—production is down by approximately 20 %—and knocked pea yields back by 5 %. Early tomato and potato plantings also faced setbacks, though current conditions suggest limited long-term impact. We continue to support growers with tailored field-level guidance to optimise recovery.

Herb regions: solid starts in Brittany and beyond

In Brittany, winter coriander and chives are looking particularly promising, with sowings proceeding to plan and strong emergence rates. basil trials in Austria have experienced wetter soils, prompting adjustments in drainage management. Overall herb availability remains stable, with only slight fluctuations in cut sizes or quality grades expected as we fine-tune our processing schedules.

Each season reminds us that agriculture is both a science and a relationship—with nature, our farmers and our communities. We continue to monitor field conditions, innovate our sustainable practices and adapt hand-in-hand with our partners. let’s preserve nature’s gifts—together.
